So this truck I recently bought came with aftermarket 17" rims running 265/70/17's. If i keep the rims but bump down to 265/65/17's that should put the outer tire diameter basically back to the stock tire size i believe. Does that sound about right with my thoughts on switching the tire aspect?
Here are some screenshots of what im thinking compared to stock, and whats on the truck now compared to stock.
I was cross referencing the odometer and mile markers on highway and its counting a tad bit slow and i figured thats from the oversized tires.
Any thoughts on this? Ill need to replace these tires before too long. They still have some tread but are from 2015 so a little older than i like to run em.
Also i forgot i wasnt in my van today and drove on some soggy grass and got stuck, brother in law and i pushed it out with wife behind the wheel. Would have loved to get a 4wd but where i live probably would only need it 2 days out of the year if i dont drive on wet grass lol. Forgot how a rwd pickup has no traction lol.

I apologize if I missed something. But the sizes you typed in your text in the post are different than what sizes appear in the screen grabs that you posted.
Try this site for comparison, it will give you more information as far as rotations and speeds go. Tire Size Comparison
However I do agree somewhat with mbb, I dont think you will see any major difference, unless you were going from one extreme to the other.
But i also would ask why do you plan on going with a different size at all?
Well i only was wanting to switch tire size closer to stock because i thought it did matter, but based on what you guys are saying it doesnt really so i will not worry about it. The odometer reading is close enough its not a huge deal to me but i record and report my odometer readings for tax purposes as I am self employed. I know people who guestimate their mileage but i like to keep a log for that and also to track what mpg my rigs are getting.
I've only ever put stock sized tires on any of my cars and tbh this is the first converstion ive had with anyone about different sizes. Thanks for the input!
Dont take that the wrong way, there are differences in the sizes you posted, minor differences really.
255/70/16 is closer in size to 265/65/17, than 255/70/16 is to 265/70/17, now there are size differences between brands as well. Albeit minor differences again.
I guess it all depends on how accurate you want to be. It sounds like you rely on accurate milage data, so........go with the 265/65/17, or go back to the actual stock sizes.
I am assuming that is the 255/70/16's?
My tread is 0.5" deep. When tire is half worn, 40k...its 0.5" smaller diameter. As nears end of life , its 3/4" smaller diameter.
odo only is right when tires new and inflated to pressure that makes diameter right. Most the time ...its wrong... no matter what. Get a gps or use google maps if 2-4% error matters to you.

Yeah 255/70/16 is the stock on door label.
I appreciate all the input from you guys. The diameter changing as tire wears is something i also didnt think of.
at this point i think I probably will go with 265/65/17 tires when I get new ones, the odometer should be a little more accurite. Using a GPS logger would be the best option, I will look into that.
The past few years I have used a log book where i write odometer at beginning of work day, then when I get home. Then I put it in a spreadsheet once a week which totals it all up for me as well as having records of each trip individually. For tax reporting they want to know the total work miles as well as the total miles driven in a year if the vehicle was used for personal use as well (which I do). Would be sweet to be able to log gps mileage with a button click, then have it go straight to a speadsheet or other digital log!
