Default tire size?

Ok...
Yes, I know... I'm new to trucking.
When I think of tire size I think of xxx/xx/xx like 285/60/17.
When someone has 32'', 33'' or even 35'' tires what does it really mean?

Thanks,
Tin

when you have a number like xxx/xx/xx its measured in metric. So to help understand all that jibberish it means width/height/rim size. This really helps understand that and convert to American numbers: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It's the height of the tire.

the 31, 32, 33, ect. all means the actual height in inches. so 33x12.50x15 is 33 inches tall 12.5 inches wide and a 15 inch rim. metrics however lets say 285/75/16 285 is mm's wide across the tread 75 is the side wall ratio so the tread is 285 mm's wide so the side wall is 75 percent of that. im to lazy or dumb to do the math but thats how it is. and the oter number is the rim size.. in inches.
so 265's are (approximately)31ish
275's are around 32.5ish,
285's=33,
295 and 305 are roughly 34 just the 305 is wider.
315's are 35's..
All with a 75 sidewall of course. and the actual size all vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
