Tire damage question and fx4 rim repair.
Okay so somebody cut into my lane yesterday and I bit the curb. Didn't think much of it at first, but looking at it this morning I see my rim is broken off and my tire is damaged. So I have a few questions. Is this okay to drive on? It hasn't lost any air in the 12+ hours that it happened. But I can see a couple steel cords when I pull the flap back a little, but none look broken. Never noticed a difference in driving it. Also will this rim be okay? Or do I need to get a new one? Tire has around 6k miles on it.

That sucks. Unfortunately it's history. I would get a replacement in the works. Should be able to find a used rim.

Yes on both. When you replace the tire, you'll want to get a at least a used rim. What will most likley happen, -the tire will bulge there and break the bands of a new or older tire. Then only get worse from there. Specially in the heat of summer.
I wouldn't chance it.

I'd drive on the wheel. My brother has a bigger chunk out of his Mustang wheel and 10k+ miles he's had no issues. My dad had a chip out of his Escalade wheel, only drove like 1k miles with it though because it annoyed him lol. His chip looks exactly like yours, about 3" long right at the bead. My brothers is just horrible, but some how it doesn't leak air. I would get a new tire though.

Idonoo..that's a bad spot for a sidewall gash, specially after a new rim goes on. Try it if you want, if it blows it can do some damage to the truck. Plus it's a safety concern. It's your truck, not theirs.

I have a good spare and its on the back, I'm just going to watch it for awhile (won't be on the highway for a while to come) I figure there's prob a lot of jeep and other rock bouncer type rigs rolling around with a lot worse cuts than this. I also had a tire shop check it out. Weren't concerned with the tire but said the rim might dig into the tire a bit
I think the angle of the first pic made it look a little gnarlier than it seems

I don't know why you would even try to keep that wheel and tire on. As said already that is an awfully large gash in a street tire. If it were a big mud tire with a thicker side wall id be a little more compelled to said it wont explode after 10 miles, BUT its not the case. Why would you chance having a blow out on the rear end and grenading the diff? or even worse jerking the wheel and running a family off the road. That is a huge safety concern IMO and the tire / wheel should be pulled before the truck hits drive again.
- i'm surprised that wheel is still on the bead, every time you hit a pothole its going to get progressively worse. your driving a truck with a ticking time bomb for a wheel, you'd be better off with a junkyard wheel and tire out of balance then that thing. I surely wouldn't want to be beside you on the road.
