Default Timing Chain went out engine locked

Was just told by my shop that my engine is locked and the timing chain went out. They said once this happens the engine is pretty much junk.
Truck is a 2001 4.6L.

Is this worth fixing? Where is a good place to start looking for a remanf. engine?

It all depends on how much money u want to spend on it how many miles are on it and overall condition of the truck

It has 117,000 on it now. Truck is in fair condition no dents with cap and alittle rust. Looking to spend $2-3800.00.

You should be able to get it done for that much

I bought my 5.4 with 135k on it for 650. Runs real great now I think total I spent around 800 doing the work myself. Fun project to do. If you don't want to spend too much, I would just go with used motor go to car-part.com and look up your motor for your truck in your area. Should be plenty since its the 4.6 bet you could score a good lower mileage engine for around $500 or less.

You can check at Ford for what they call oversized crate motors. They build the engines NEW with a crank that was 10 thousands over when it was ground at the factory vs standard bearings. Everything is new and it has a full warranty at a reduced price. The last 4.6 I purchased was $1500 for a long block.

X2 we did that to my uncles 01 4.6 found one for $750 at a salvage yard. In a grand marcuis and it only had 51,000 miles. Had about $1000 in it at the end. But now it runs great. Just a heads up make sure you hear engine I'm vehicle before buying engine. I learnt that when my gpa bought a engine that was blown from a salvage yard along time ago..
