Timing Chain Replacement
I have a 2000 F150 with a 4.2L V8. I bought it about two years ago with 195,000 miles on it or so. Right now it has about 225,000 miles on it. When I first bought it, the owner said that I should replace the timing chain. I never bothered and it is currently running fine. However, with a few long drives coming up, should I change the timing chain as a precautionary measure? The truck seems to be running fine despite all the miles on it.
well do you have a 4.2 v6 or the 4.6 v8......... either way....
i wouldnt change the timing chain either way... its not a belt.. by the time the chain would need replacing you would prolly need more work... if its running fine i wouldnt mess with it

my 4.6 v8 blew the head gasket at 234,000 miles the chains were in good shape and still tight. also the timeing chain guides were still in good shape as well so i wouldnt worry bout it.
