ticking what do I do?
well I bought this truck about a month ago everything was going great untill yesterday. I got in it and started it up and it stated making this ticking sound. The man that I bought it from said that it just had a engine rebuild done to it and showed me the paper work. Could I need to maybe try useing a havier oil or something like that. The truck has 120,875 miles on it and it still runs stong it just now has that sound also.. Any help would be great.
That's just it I also don't know what type is it. The guy I bought it from said he changed the oil him self and the oil looks clean but to me also looks thin. And I can't get ahold of him to find out what kind he used.
the best thing would be to do another oil change no matter what he said. it wouldnt hurt. could u get a video?
I'm curious about this as well. I have a 4.2 that has a ticking sound. The guy that works on my truck when I don't have time or don't have the know how said that he has heard alot of these trucks make that noise and it was nothing to worry about. He's not the only one who has said this to me but the truck runs fine and has plenty of power. However it still kind of concerns me. What kind of motor do you have in your truck.

+1, Ford decided it would be a good idea to put cast iron manifolds on an aluminum head. The studs/bolts get rusty the head and manifold expand and contract at far different rates, bolts/studs snap and break which means you end up with a manifold leak.
The AC clutch when off will also make a ticking sound that sounds like it is coming from the engine in these trucks. With the engine running at idle and ticking, turn on the AC and see if the ticking sound stops or quiets down. If it does, don't worry about it because that clutch will do that in some cases and be fine.
