Default Ticking noise when accelerating.

I have a 1999 f-250 light duty. 5.4L v8. I ha e straight pipes on my truck and i started hearing a ticking noise when i accelerated. I think it is a possible exhaust leak. I live in pa and my inspection is up here in a month so I got a muffler and everything for it just to see if that made a difference and the noise is still there. Any ideas what it could be?

I have an exhaust leak, sounds like popcorn popping coming down the street. Every one of the studs are broken so its going to cost over $800 just to remove the manifolds, and $300 to put on shorty headers, and thats on a "side job" with my buddys shop. If its not throwing o2 sensor codes, it should be able to get inspected right? If they ask, tell em you use light oil (0w-20) from the summer, and just started driving the truck so the rockers are noisy until you change to a heavier oil for the winter.

It wouldn't hurt to check and make sure the plugs are tight.

If your hear it moaning noise everytime you accelerate, You just need to neutralizing the drivetrain mounts. If this don't work try neutralizing the exhaust system.

If the exhaust is leaking it will produce a popping/knocking sound.
