Default Thinking 302 swap

ok heres my deal, ive been having coil problems with this truck since i got it, its a 4.6, now im not firing on bank 1 at all, almost like a vct solenoid went bad but this truck dosnt have one. Dont get me wrong here but i like the 4.6 but theres to many problems with this one. I have a ol school 302 bored to a 306 sittin in the garage an ready to run, really starting to think about a swap, my truck has the M5od-r2 tranny so i have no electronics there, from the research ive done they will bolt up,i know ill have to make motor mounts, just tryin to figure out if this has been done, i know its alot of work but if i can get it to bolt to my tranny is really my only consern

Last year there was a 302 f150 for sale on my local Craig's list. Guy said it ran but here in CA you would never be able to drive it on the street legally. Check your states/county smog laws first.

302 will not bolt up to any transmission from a modular engine. Bell housing pattern is completely different.

Modulars are a hell of a lot more reliable than pushrods. Just swap in a fresh 4.6 if you can't figure out the issue.

Although a firing problem should be easy to track down.

and to look into your original issue. If you are losing fire on 1 bank completely you probably have the firing order wrong or have bad coil packs and wires.

I would try to fix the issue or find a used 4.6 or 5.4

LIke stated above, you are going to run into a headache getting parts to bolt up.

update!!! im not geetting no compression on bank 1 at all, tore it down to find the intake valves on the 4 cyl were bent, two pistions busted. ive called around every junkyard around and found only 1 engine an they want $1,200 and it with 183,xxx miles on it, that being said i took the tranny out of my parts truck "97 f-150 4.2 5-speed 4x4" with a blowed engine, bolts right to the 302 with no problems, just had to drill out the dowl pin holes cause the 302 has bigger pins. yes to most of you im DEVALUING my truck by going carb 302 but the way i see it is it aint worth sh*t if it aint runnin...i use this truck for one reason and one reason only...ridge runnin and mud boggin, i plan on pullin the engine an trans this weekend and start the 302 process, ill be takin pics and postin them as progress goes on.

Good luck. The 302 is going to destroy that M5OD-R2
