Tailgate latch broken?
Hi guys,
my shop messed up somehow my tailgate latch.
Accourding to them the took the new tires from the bed and closed the tailgate, now when you pull the handle nothing happens, you feel no restiance at all when you pull the handle. The handle lifts way to easy.
Now the best part: The tonneau cover is closed! No chance getting into the bed and try to get to the latch from the inside!! Any ideas how to open the tailgate?!? I have to break into my own bed

These years of trucks had known problems with the tailgates locking by themselves. I fixed a ton of these when I was at the dealership. I know some of the soft tonneau covers like Access have a button on the driverside rail to release the lock mechanism. It's like 8" from the rear of the tonneau cover. If it locked itself, the mechanism needs to bent inside to hold more pressure up. Gravity pulls down on it and closing the tailgate makes it drop down and lock itself.
Right :-\
Well I never lock it, since there are some handlecovers on it
I trust them, they are some cool honest guys, they only opend the tailgate to get the tires and then closed it...
Exactly it's a access sports rollup with the release on the left side.

Taadaa here is the fix for my problem: I removed the plastic handle cover to get the key back in, tried to unlock, nothing happen.
Then I pulled the handle couple times while locking / unlocking with the key, after some tries a strange clickingnoise and the handle had some resistance again - tailgate came open!!
