T-case or Trans?
Hey guys,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I always find what I need, until now, so here it goes:
I have a 97 F150 5.4 Auto 4x4, 180k. The 4x4 hasn't work for a long time. Last night I hit a pot hole. After that, I noticed a rattling and slight slugging during the rattle. I thought a caliper had busted loose. I made it home, and went to put it in reverse, and it sounded like someone had put a wrench in my trans! "crrrrrrrrrr" All other gears work fine. Fluid is a tad brown, but other wise normal. All filters/ fluids were changed two years ago. The sound seems to be coming from the transfer case, but isn't the trans responsible for reverse? It's always kinda "popped" into reverse, but my dads truck does it, too, so I thought it was normal. Linkage seems tight. I'm so lost right now it's not even cool, so any pointers would be fantastic and super appreciated!
