Default Sunroof stability

Just curious. Thinking forward to my next truck in about 5 years. Anyone with a 1997-2003 with a sunroof? If so, how has it held up? Leaks? Inoperable? Did anyone have to replace gaskets? I'm a long term owner ('02 F150 FX4 Scab flare) and my next truck will be no different. I like a sunroof but not sure about the long term ownership aspects. Thanks!

its a great idea, that's why you see them on trucks all the time. Grab the ole sawzall, go to town and you'll have yourself a sunroof in no time. Heck, that's why they make silicone right?

Nah, not looking to put sunroof in my '02. As noted above thinking ahead to my next truck. Would only do a factory sunroof.

They're fine. Check for signs that it has leaked in the past. Otherwise I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Just trying to get an idea of what they're like in the long term. Say 150K+ miles and more than 10 years. Do they start leaking any worse. Do they need gaskets replaced. That sort of thing.

I can only speak from experience here. My uncle bought a 2001 screw 5.4L new from the dealer it currently has about 110k on it. He still has it and since about 2009 it leaks every time it rains. It's in a garage now, but the entire roof liner is ruined. I guess some drains got clogged or something in the sunroof. It also won't open or close. It failed closed(thankfully) and only makes a clicking noise if you try to open it.

A plastic bag taped over the entire sunroof area is the only thing keeping rain from getting in. If it's not covered when it rains the front seat is getting wet; It's a fact. If i ever own this truck the first thing I will do is take out the sunroof and bad roof liner, weld a patch panel in, paint the roof and hopefully find a new roof liner from a junkyard.
