Default subs not working?

So i just had my mechanic wire up my subs for me. The Power and ground wire, the amp turn on wire, and the speaker wire is all brand new. The only thing that is old is the RCA cable, which looks like there is a little burn on the inside of the tubing. After everything was installed the subs wouldn't work. Is there a way to check the amp to make sure its powered/fine, i had the amp hooked up to my buddys car and know it works. How would i check to see if there is power to the amp? Also, my mechanic said that it might need one of those four prong things (forgot what its called) because on the side of the amp is says something like speaker output over it, i haven't seen this on any set up so i dont know. It is a pioneer 760 watt amp, with 2 8" kicker subs. any help on this would be appreciated

Most amps I've messed with have a light to indicate that they are powered up so you could look an see if it's lit up. Or get a voltmeter and see if your getting the 12v on the power wire. You could also find another set of rca's to try, which would be a good idea if yours look burnt.
