Default Stutter

I have a 1998 4.6, it runs great but I think I'm noticing a stutter, maybe it's just me though. When I punch it or accelerate fast getting on the highway, it'll get up and go but seems like it sputters and then catches itself and really goes like it should. For instance I'll punch it and it'll go up to about 3,000 rpms for a couple seconds and then go a little more to 3,300 where it seems like its really is supposed to be. I was thinking change the fuel and air filters?? But before I do that has anyone had this happen? Is this a problem or am I just thinking this little v8 should be going faster than it is haha

It's not built for racing.

Changing air and fuel filter are good maintenance items anyway.
