Default Stuck in 4x4

i put my truck in 4L but at first it didn’t want to shift into 4x4 at all, after a few tries, it shifts into 4x4 Low range. after i used it, i tried to switch it back into 2H, and it won’t change back. the dash doesn’t click and the usual sound of it switching into 4L doesn’t happen. i messed with the fuse under the hood, and now it won’t even show up on the dash that it’s in 4x4 or low range, i try to switch it and it just clicks but nothing switches or shows up on the dash. and when i try to drive, it still whines like it’s in 4L. what the heck is going on guys ?

Your truck only shifts under certain conditions, under 55 for 4H, etc.
To know this, it has to have the GEM be involved.

your switch goes thru the GEM, and then to shift motor on the transfer case. So it can be wires, fuse, GEM, or tcase shift motor that is problem.

The tcase shift motor is a known problem. When it gets confused...it quits responding. It does a self test when truck is started, if it fails it disables 4wd operation. It fails because the positioner in the shift motor fails to tell it where the shift motor is at.

You can take your shift motor off....3 x 10mm bolts, takes a minute, and shift your tcase back by hand to be able to drive it while work on it. Theres a triangular **** the shift motor fits over.

majority of the time if there are NO lights, and fuses is good, its the shift motor that failed and computer lost the position of it. It throws codes a dealer can read in the PCM.

Crawl under the truck and tap on the shift motor. They get old and the get stuck at times. Turn the ignition switch on and see if you can get it to shift into 4HI.

When mine first gave me trouble, it worked exactly once more before never ever again.

If you have another motor already, hook it up, shift it to 4wd, shoyld be able to install it.

Sometimes 4 wd can build tension in drivetrain on pavement and make ****ing hard.

Mine turned easy with visegrip made to grip nuts
