Question Strange Brake Problem

Yesterday, I had a really strange problem with the brakes on my 1999 F150 Lariat 4WD.

As I was driving away from a stop, I applied the brakes. The passenger front tire locked up!

I had to back up and go forward for it to release.

It stopped for the next 20 miles or so, and did it again. The brake pedal goes almost to the floor now.

BUT - no loss of fluid from the master.

Today, I pumped the brake pedal, and can hear a "hiss" from the passenger side of the engine compartment.

I think it is a bad caliper.....Any ideas????

Thanks

If it is bad you will hear it flexing or the caliper will leak. Sounds like you need to service your front brakes, IE remove pads, lube, etc.

Brake lockup = brake fluid trapped in the caliper. I would check (lubricate) caliper pin first.

or it could be some corrosion on the brake caliper cylinder causing the locking up as well, if lubing the caliper pin doesnt work might be a good idea to replace the front calipers.
