Default Straight pipes

So I've been looking around the internet about straight pipes and have seen all sorts of reviews. I own an 03 4.6 screw. I know these aren't the preferred choice but for a low income high school student they are. I've heard that with these you lose a lot of low end torque but if you add an X pipe it will help a little with the torque issue, is that true? Would anybody mind pointing me to a "how to" for these pipes?

Thanks guys
Taylor

Start here for to get a better understanding for what I'm about to say and about the X pipe funcion:

The "How to" is pretty simple. Start at the stock Y. Replace it with either an X or an H. Then run 2.5" pipes back to the exit location and tips of your choice. FYI Dynomax bullets are only $40 and sound much better than straights.

If your really on a budget there isn't a huge performance gain from duals. Slightly better sound but that's it. You can get a quality sound by replacing the stock muffler with a straight through muffler and weld a tip on the end of the stock pipe.

i just put a welded dynomax ultra flo muffler on my 01 crew 4.6 with a 3" tip. it sounds good but not real loud at all. we played around a little when we did it and put a pipe where the muffler went just to hear it. it actually sounded pretty good which amazed me! lol i still went with the muffler but if your looking for a louder deep sound and cheap i would go with the straight pipe. i cant help with the performance area though, sorry.

As long as it's a single 3" there won't be any issues. Might as well use an aftermarket Y in place of the stock Y to get it to the right diameter as the stock Y is poorly designed.
