I dug into this a bit more and found THIS WRITE-UP on a wheel swap in an Excursion. I assume the procedure would be the same to an F150. The time and expense, though, don't seem worth it to gain only volume controls and a "next" selection button. I think I'll just keep reaching for the dash.

The clockspring was the expensive thing. I paid 40 for it from a yard in Kansas City, including freight. The Steering wheel I think, don't quote me, but was 30 or so. It sat for months before I even added it, so the memory isn't always on spot. lol. I think I can look back in the Thinking thread and I listed what i paid for everything, so I might be off a tad. I could even have the prices backwards. LOL. I just thought for the money, it was worth it at the time, so it couldn't of been that much, or I wouldn't of bought when I did. I plan on using the heater controls to do something else later. I have to see what it can power or trip with it's signal. That's a think for later this year. RIght now I'm finishing up some brakes to swap onto Red.

Just keep an eye out for a wheel cheap, and keep watching for a cheap c/spring. That's how I did my buying. On the Excursion video, it's basically the same set up. His pricing was out of sight, but what he did is right. I used his write up and another of F150.net (sorry for the plug), but a guy on there did it and gave a better listing on the wiring swaps (my 98 had different end plugs also, as did the Excursion). I like it honestly.

Here is a link for the clockspring, in the yards. There is one for 45.50 on there. That wouldn't be bad.

For that kind of money, AK, it would be worth tackling, but seeing wheels on eBay (used ones) for upwards of $200? No way. I'll hit up car-part.com once in awhile, and maybe I'll collect the parts. The stopper for me might be the fact that the F150 has no provisions at all for remote H/U controls, so I'm wondering what wiring might entail. (I also need a "real" conversion unit for the controls to the Pioneer which will add to the project $$.)

P.S. I wouldn't want the wood wheel, so that might make the hunt a bit more challenging.
