Default starter difference

is there a difference between astarter for an auto trany and a manual tranny? i have have a 97 f150 4x4 automatic and replaced the starter with one from a used parts store. the starter is good but sounds like it hits something when i try to start my truck, it binds up and wont turn the truck over. i think i have the wrong starter.

I am sure theirs a difference in them and if theirs grinding you better take it out or you going to kill your flywheel

The starters are the same for auto and manual!! If its grinding then you might have gotten a starter from something else or you have other problems.

Man... If it was a Chebbie, I'd say add or remove shims... But I've never seen a Ford with shims on the starter..
