but what you do is put something uber combustable in the gas tank an wherever there is a whistling flame in the line, that you leak
plus you have potential for flames from your exhaust

Flames do make things go faster. Maybe I should do that for this little v6 lol. I was kind of wondering if maybe it's an injector leaking or something. It usually does it if the truck has been sitting for a few hours. Not as often if I just run in a store and come back.

My gas milage has also seemed to drop a lot down to about 14 combined highway/city. Seems like when I got it 6 years ago I was getting about 18.

If that's the case then the top of your injector will be clean. Right at the top close to trhe rail port they will get a little dirty with time. Right where it plugs into the top rail (just below the O-ring) and about 1/4" down the injector body. So look for a clean one.

Also have someone turn the key while your watching the injectors. Don't start, just have someone turn the key, then look, listen and sniff while the pump charges the lines.

A very common problem with these trucks is the spring connectors to the rail. The spring inside can totally rust, break and disintegrate. Yes, the fuel line CAN come off while driving. Check your connectors at the rail...real good and check for leaks as well.

Another weak spot is right after the fuel filter. Look and you'll see why.

Thanks. I'll look at them and see. Would a tps sensor or camshaft sensor give these symptoms as well? I have owned the truck since 98k miles on it and it has 145k on it now. So idk what happened in it's previous life. So I kinda figure changing those two out and putting a new coil pack on it couldn't hurt.

I also have the dreaded bell ringing noise from the drivers side front. Been there since I bought it just haven't messed with it. And I think there might be a slight exhaust leak from the manifold on the drivers side.

I did find out about super six motor sports and the super charger kit they have for the 4.2. Real tempted to buy me a block and build up a motor.

If it makes this noise on the drivers side with the engine running but the vehicle sitting still in gear, you most likely have a broken flex plate/flywheel or a damaged starter drive gear that is not returning. it could be broken A/C compressor clutch but that's on the passenger side , that's my 2 bits for your bell noise. for the manifold leak, you probably just needa replace gaskets.
