I put pioneer 6x9s in my truck and i didnt use adapters. I went to osh and bought some of those nylon screw spacers, they were maybe 1/4in 3/8 inch thick, they space the speaker away from the door panel just enough for them to sit againt the stock hole, but still let the plastic door trim sit over them. Then i drilled new holes into the door metal and installed the speakers, a little tedious but you can make em fit tight.
