Default Left Turn signal going off on its own

Hi Everyone,

New to the forum as this is my first post but not new to Fords in general. I posted this on another site to see if I could figure out what is causing this problem. I just purchased a 2001 F150 Super Crew Lariat last week. The truck is in almost perfect condition. However last night as I was getting ready to leave work. I hopped in to warm it up and my left turn signal indicator on the dash started going off really fast. I looked out and the front left turn signal and mirror indicator lights were blinking fast also. At this point I thought I had bumped the turn signal on when I got in but I then turn turned the left turn signal on and everything slowed down to normal and also my rear left turn signal blinked along with the other two lights. I then turned off the turn signal and it went back to blinking really fast again on the dash and the front left and mirror lights. After about 5 minutes driving home with it blinking like this it just went off and I could hear like a loose electrical connection sizzling under the dash right after. My first thought is flasher fuse hanging up or going bad. Also figured it might just not like the cold. However as I get ready this morning to take the kids to school it does it again. But after about 5 minutes the issue went away again. Would you guys have a good starting point for me to look at to correct this problem?

Most likely you have a turn signal switch issue. Ford calls the thing the Multi Function Switch. Changing it out isn't teribbly difficult, but you need to be careful, since a wrong move could trigger the air bag. Make sure you pull the Air bag fuses...

You'll have to pull the Steering wheel (there are inexpensive pullers out there) and lower the column from the dash. The harness runs under the column covers and plugs into the main harness just about under the dash. It can be a bugger to get back together tight, but make sure you get it as snug as you can.

I will do some researching and see if I can get it done in the next couple weeks. I did find out this weekend while hunting that when it starts doing it that I can just hit the hazards on and then back off and it will quit. I tilted the steering wheel and it would do it again until I hit the hazzards again to get it to shut off again.
