Default Sluggish Starting when cold...5.4L

I have a 2001 F-150SC...5.4L 90K. After 90k miles of perfect starting on the first turn of the key, the engine is now sluggish to start and requires two or three attempts. The plugs were just changed, including one new coil cap. The AFS was cleaned as well as new oil and gas filters. Any ideas?

Check the fuel pressure when you're getting that symptom. It may be the pump getting ready to go. Have you checked for any codes. What is the AFS? Are you referring to the MAF?

Bert,
Thanks for the reply. Yes...my bad....MAF. I don't have any codes since replacing #6 Coil Cap. What's the best way to check the fuel pressure?

You should find a fitting on the fuel rail for connecting a gauge. Do you have a Haynes or Chilton manual? If not, maybe your library has one.

Bert,

No problem. I'm familiar with the S-Valve on the fuel rail. I need to get pick-up a fuel gauge and do the test. I found a great video of the test procedure. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks!
