Slow transmission engagement
Hello there. I recently bought a 2002 f150 king ranch super crew. It has around 140k and runs great. Or so i think....
The only thing that worries me is that when shifting into reverse and drive it can take up to 2 seconds for it to engage. Reverse seems to lag the most. Once it engages you can feel a good sized jolt. Not quite enough to call it a slam into gear. Most of the time engagement takes around .5-1.5 seconds.
Do i have anything to worry about? fluid is clean, no slipping, and it shifts pretty smooth while driving. Previous owner gave me all the papers and the tranny has been flushed at least twice in it's life. It's a 4r100E no the 4r70w. I do have a small leak in the tranny cooling line which will be fixed this weekend.
How long do these 4r100E trannies last and what are the death symptoms?
Thanks guys

I have to wait about a second for mine when putting it in reverse. It's been like that ever since I bought it with 101k and it now has 121k. My Firebird does the same thing with a 700R4. I wouldn't worry about it bro. Mine will also "clink" into gear. Doesn't really make a noise but you can feel it.
