Default Shorty Headers?

Hello. I have a 2002 f150 XLT with a 5.4L triton V8. Two years ago I had a K&N CAI kit and a flowmaster cat back exhaust put on. I'm very pleased with the results so far, but now am looking for a little more. I have been looking into shorty headers lately. What do you guys think. I plan on upgrading to high flow cats some time this year, but im on a budget. I kind of wanted to stay away from long tubes because I have heard you can't run cats with them and you have to reposition the O2 sensors, as well as tune the engine. I assume not very budget friendly. Also the truck is a daily driver but I like to really open it up every so often. I also live in California which has very strict emission laws.I would lime to meet it under $550 if possible. I also might look into getting a bulldog power programmer. One more thing. I m pretty handy and would prefer to do the upgrade my self. Just a thought. Thanks

From what I've read on here short tube headers don't give you much if any gain. Long tubes are where the power is at.

Long tubes headers are the only way to go. Also look into a Electric fan setup, and some underdrive pulleys. Then look for custom tuning from either PHP or 5 Star. You will be surprised at the results.
