Default Shift slector off.

In my 99 5.4 auto tranny my shift needle is just a bit off the mark. When in park is shows I'm in reverse. When in drive is saying I'm in d2. Normal shifting into various gears is still there and drives fine. Does the little cable in there need to be replaced or can it be adjusted?
