Default Shift Linkage Pops Off

So there is a metal lever on the driver side of our transmissions the has a plastic linkage that clips onto a metal **** on that lever. My plastic linkage keeps randomly popping off when I am shifting from reverse to drive, or anything else.

It fits on pretty loosely now and I need to be able to tighten this back up, but I dont know how.

Anyone else fix this or know how? I would really appreciate it.

Get your dealer to sell you the new insert grommet that the rod clicks into. The linkage has probably been taken off before and they didn't replace the piece. If you have a problem trying to put in the new one, just let it soak in some hot water for about 15 minutes and it wll pop right in and your linkage will also, since it is still warm.

So this is a grommet that fits inside of the plastic piece or is it sold as the complete plastic piece?

Im sorry for the questions but I just want to be sure I know what I am asking for when I walk in there tomorrow.

SOme models have insert clips for the shift linkage. Just ask the Ford dealer for what ever grommet/clip fits your year and model truck. Make sure you tell him that it is where the shift rod hooks into the transmission selector and he will give you the correct piece. I don't believe your plastic (shift selector cable) has to be replaced. I think it is just the insert. Best to see what is still available from FORD. Good luck.

This is what you have right? The white piece is the lock on mechanism which you get from Ford. Hope this helps.
