shift on the fly
Are the 97 F150's shift on the fly? I was told by the previous owner it was shift on the fly 4x4 system, but when I used 4 high, got out of the snow I was in, and hit dry pavement, shifted it back to 2wd the 4x4 light went off but I could tell it was still in 4 high, I then pulled into a drive way put it in neutral, put it back in 4 high then back in 2 high and then reversed, it then came out of 4 high and back into 2wd, the 99 Trooper I had before this was push button shift on the fly unless I needed 4 low. Sooooo, I'm not familiar with the Ford SOTF systems. I guess my question is are the 97 F150's SOTF or did I just not do it right.
Yes, the 97-2003 F-150s are shift on the fly, however, as the truck gets older sometimes it doesn't like to disengage unless reversing or whatever else. I know with mine that a majority of the time it works fine as SOTF, but sometimes it sometimes seems like I need to back up to disengage my front hubs.
Thanks for the reply.I used it once before and it was fine, I will have a look this Wednesday, to see what may be causing it to not disengage, but as long as it work's when I need it then it's fine by me. BTW I am working the little bugs out and I'm gonna clean it up good and post some pic's soon, to post pic's in my sig does the pic need to be resized or does it do it on it's own? Thanks
97-03 has the shift **** or manual shifter.. But it's always a good idea when using 4wd is when you take it out of 4wd, go in reverse to disengage it then go forward. It just makes sure it disengages.
I feel better going in reverse to make sure it disengages, I even did that with my old Trooper, though I didn't need to, it just made me feel better. I had an old Dodge Power Wagon with manual locking hub's and got into the habit of reversing to get it to disengage. Thanks for the input everybody.
