Default Service Engine Soon Light

Hi all,

I just bought a 01 SuperCrew the other day and today I noticed that the service engine soon light stays on after the truck is running. In fact it has been doing it all day. I used the search function here and couldn't find anything, so I will ask. How can I get it to turn off?

Thanks

Disconnect the batter cables for a minute or so. If it comes up again in a few days take it to a shop and get the problem diagnosed....

K, I will try that and see if that works.

Any ideas on what problem that light signifies?

The CEL means there is a code of some sort being thrown. There are a number of different things it could stand for.

make sure your gas cap is on tight after resetting the cel.

These things are money makers for service shops! Can't pass an emissions test with it illuminated! But often it is just some minor thing that really does not cause any pollution. Just another hidden "tax" on your wallet.

Thanks for the tip spanz, it did happen after I got gas so that could be it. Didn't even think about that.

i just bought my truck the other week and the engine light was on. it runs and drives good, so im not too worried about it. anyhow i got a good quote from the sales guy about it. he said "there are 1000 different reasons it could be on, and 999 of em wont do any harm"

Well I reset everything by unplugging the battery, it must have been the gas cap deal, it's all good now.
