sct programmer question?
Can an sct be used on different vehicles? A guy with a mustang wants to sell me his sct. He said when i plug it into my truck it will download the oem code and then i can get custom tunes from there, is this true.
If the mustang owner returned his vehicle to stock, and the tuner has been used on less than 6 vehicles, then yes, it will work on your truck. All you have to do is call SCT and they can give you the names of companies that will do tunes for your truck. I think STEEDA is one of them. You then contact one of those companies and they will email you a tune (after you pay for it) to load into the tuner. You then upload that tune into your truck.
If the owner has not returned his vehicle to stock, then the tuner is "locked" or "married" to his car. You would then have to send the tuner back to SCT to be unlocked. There is a substantial charge for this.
i'm not sure of everything I just posted, but it's pretty close.
thanks

Call Justin at vmptuning.com . Most tuners will charge you around $100 but will email you the tunes. As long as you are close to stock, I know he has the tunes already.
BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAS TO PUT HIS BACK TO STOCK OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE LOCKED OUT.

If it's locked, then no it won't work and you have to pay $150 fee to SCT to unlock it. If it's unlocked, then yes it will work but you will also need to buy your own custom tune, you CANNOT use his tune.
Easy to check if it's locked or not, assuming it's an X3, power it on, select Device Info, scroll to bottom, and see if it says Device Locked/Married or Device Unlocked/Unmarried. Both terms mean the same thing.
