I have a 1997 5.4l 4x4 I have an awful screeching/ squeeking noise from under my truck while driving around 25-60 mph. This noise has recently developed. I also have had some brake screeching for quite some time. I have replace rotors and pads all the say around and it still screeched when I brake. But, the noise while I am driving has developed recently and seems to be getting worse. It does stop only momentarily when I step on the brake pedal. I have also replaces U-Joints twice! Recently. Any ideas?

Sounds like a rock jammed in the dust shield to me.

How do I check this and fix it? It has been driving me crazy.

Pull your wheels off and look between the back of the rotor and the dust sheild. There may be rocks jammed in brake caliper too

Well, I went through some very large puddles on a dirt road the other day and now I cannot hear the screech anymore while driving. Although my brakes still sound like hell. I'm going to check for a sticking caliper soon.

My driver fronts got another rock jammed in there. I'm gonna ditch the dust shields when I get the chance

I think thats what I will need to do. Noticed again today that the noise is not entirely gone but has gotten more difficult to notice.
