Default Saving Gas?

As mentioned in a previous thread I just purchased my FIRST ever Full Size Truck today. A 1997 XLT F150 with the 4.6L V8 engine. It has 69,800 miles on it. I have heard all the normal things about how to save gas while driving on the interstate such as Leave The Tailgate Down, Drive the Speed Limit etc...... Is there any other ways to save gas and is there an actual Performance Part out there that helps save on gas? Will an aftermarket exhaust system improve or take away from my gas mileage?

Leave the tailgate up is better fuel mileage. Yes a good catback will help fuel mileage. So will a cold air intake and a good tune. The problem lies how long will it take to re-coupe the money spent on these if all you want is more mileage?? Good catback = 400.00 Tuner with custom tunes = 450.00ish Good cold air intake = 350.00ish. So now your 1200.00 into it. to get like a mile or 2 better. I have a headache so I am not gonna do the math, but if fuel mileage is all you want its not worth it. If you want more performance and a better running truck I reccomend all 3.

Thanks for all your information NGM. All 3 of those things are coming in the near future for sure. I guess I'll have to stick to the speed limit to save gas lol.
