I kept my 89 toyota 4wd (195k) as extra vehicle when i got new 95 z71. It mostly sat several yrs. Used it to take 4 wheeler to hunting camp mostly.
When i sold the toyota it had 210,000. It had also had:

Dead battery numerous times. Always dead it seemed.
Freon leaked out a/c because compressor seal leaked. Too $$$ to fix
Clutch slave cyl leaked /replaced
C lutch master cyl replaced
Brake wheel cyl leaked/replaced
Brake master cyl leaked/replaced
Brake booster problem developed
Head gasket problem
Interior degraded by sun
Exhaust pipe and muffler rusted out
Fuel tank rusted badly..had to clean out
Fuel pump siezed...had to replace
Tires cracking
Began burning oil badly. Valve seals and rings.
Power radio antenna quit
Speakers degraded and failed
Rear window began leaking


Etc.

More im sure ive forgot.

For the pleasure of this I paid 5x in insurance, what i sold it for.

Just headaches.

Overall, keeping it vs selling it immediately, cost me probably $8000 +

It's really up to you, if you think you'll keep driving it fix it up. For what is effectively a non running vehicle you'll get far less than for a running one. If you don't fix it and sell as is in the KC area you might get around a grand for it. Keep in mind this is KC since I live near there and your area might be different. You need to drive it at least once or twice a week but beyond that it is going to rust as it sits. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with mbb but it really depends on what you want.

 

I chased that prob for months. turns out after 17 years I Florida heat, it was cracked vacume hoses.

 

Like I said "It will be at 100% again if it's a EVR issue." Meaning your truck will be back running 100% better. W/green line detached. If that was the case, then yes it would be an EVR problem. Which is what the other end of the green line is attached to.

 

Hey all here following this.....I took the plunge and pulled the throttle body out and look what I found thanks to you all here. Totally clogged EGR ports. Well trunk has 230,000 miles after all. Then I wonder why it was having idle issues. Soaked the throttle body overnight in degreaser and going to scrub the ports really good. I thinking the truck will run great now. Keeping my fingers crossed. Will let everyone know what happens. Thanks !

I must of of underestimated the cleaning power of purple degreaser. I also was unaware of the destructive power the degreaser has on aluminum parts. I pull the port after letting soak overnight and this is what I found......

 

A tiny hole maybe less than the size of a bb So what now? It's either spend big money, not sure how much or what I did was use some JB Weld and try to fill in this hole. I just wondering if it will hold under extreme heat or do I just put it on and see what happens. I put a flashlight down the port and no ligtht came through the outside so I'm thinking its not into or through the inside of the port. Advise please

 

So do I hold off on putting it back on? I would hate to have to go through all that work again if it doesnt work out for the reason of the weld not holding. I am going to let the weld cure overnight and maybe just go ahead and take my chances put it back in the truck.

FYI Be very careful when you use degreaser on aluminum parts as it can be very corrosive, leaves a real nasty white film all over when left overnight at almost full strength! I used some polish to try and clean the white film off as much as possible.

 

Looking at the gasket it appears to be in really good shape. No imprints or indentations. Can it be used again or do I have to buy a new one ?
