Ive been having some trouble with my 2003 xl 4.6, when it idles it misses alot and then when i go between 45 and 55 mph it "hops" im not sure what its doing but if anyone has any tips please fill me in.

 

Symptoms of a failing COP.

Buy one (or borrow a known good one) and replace one at a time until you find out which one is faulty.

 

4.6 has coil packs

Pull the wires off the spark plugs one by one and just look for liquid on any of the boots, then when you find it just get the liquid out of there, dry off the boot and put it back in. If no luck there then you might need a new coil pack

 

My 03 4.6 has COPs. It does sound like one is failing.
