My '97 4.6L F150 had a poor low idle and check engine light on. Trouble code P0402. See how I fixed it in the video below. The video details proper diagnostics to test the EVR vacuum solenoid, EGR and DPFE sensor. Hope it helps someone out. Comments and questions are always welcome and don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel Ozzstar for more fun automotive projects and repairs! Thanks -Ozz
GREAT Vid! How often does a 402 come up ? Hardly ever. How many check the EVR before replacing the DPFE, EGR valve or cleaning the ports? I lost count.
A little short cut though...you can pull the green line on the EGR valve to eliminate the valve and determine it's a EVR or at times a PCM fault.
Nice.
A little diag to go with, -
BTW- Scanner, - does live data dig into the misfire monitor info...misfire count per cylinder ?

Hey Jbrew, yeah the little foam filter, imagine. haha Thanks for the kind words. I was told by Keith one of the most competent auto diagnostic technicians on this planet (yes it's true) that this system is called positive pressure. I want to learn more on how the PCM recognizes an induced vacuum leak past the MAF sensor. Even better is why did the engineers design it that way!? I'm starting to think you may be in the same 2% club as I am. lol
I actually did pull the EGR vacuum line and test the EVR that way just didn't get a chance to film that and looking back I wish I did. The diagram you posted of the system here was awesome, thank you! Wish I had that for the vid as well! haha I try to make my videos make sense to the DIY parts cannon guy at home (or in the shop) to get them to diagnose then repair/replace. Do you mind if I use the diagram, is that from SD's book? I will ask him directly for permission if it is. Thanks -Glen
Haha no problem, the diagram came from Ford Scorpio UK. A quick go-to that I've used periodically through the years. Occasionally, I'll pull a diagram or two from there. I haven't gotten any flack about it. It's an informative site, -
