Replacing Transfer Case Seal
I noticed my truck had developed a leak of some sort today. I took a quick look under and found the seal where the rear drive shaft comes out of the transfer case was leaking. I think I can see how to fix it, I just wanted to run this by you guys and make sure I wasn't missing anything.
1) Mark and Unbolt drive shaft from pinion flange and slide out.
2) Use a screw driver or pick to pry out old seal from transfer case output housing, being careful to not scratch anything.
3) install new seal with large socket and rubber mallet.
4) Re-install drive shaft and top off T-case with ATF to bottom of fill hole.
My only real question is whether or not the trans and t-case share fluid. If they do, the pressure from the trans pump might force all of the fluid out of both. But if they don't, can I drive the truck to the parts store? The fluid should only leak down to below the seal level. A low, but still serviceable level in the short term.

I know this is an old thread, but I have the same issue, a leaky rear transfer case seal. Does the rest of the OP's post make sense? Is there any hidden gotchas?
