Default Replacing My Cats

After just recently replacing my exhaust manifolds that were starting to rot. My truck again has started with the, where the hell is that coming from noise? Upon closer inspection I noticed that my cats are now starting to rot, there are several holes starting to open up on both sides. So I went and bought a new set and was wondering do I need to remove the crossmember for removal/installation. My truck is a 98 4.6l 4x4. If I remove the crossmember do I need to support the tranny, and if so how do I do that without the support getting in the way.
