i have a tear on my outer cv boot. snow is coming soon so i want to replace it asap. i have a 00 f150 4x4 5.4l v8. how dificult is the process? can i use a split type boot?? i also heard of putting silicon on it the tear for a temporary fix. how long can i rely on the silicon repair?

You are better off getting a new axle. What damage has already been caused is going to get worse, quickly

+1 If you're going to go through the work to replace a boot you might as well replace the whole Cv. If you have cranked T-bars then it would be an even better idea.

When a boot gets torn dirt, dust, and road grime enters through it and you'll just trap that stuff in by sealing it with silicone.

Wouldn't it suck to not have four wheel drive in the snow because of a jimmy-rig repair job?
