Default Replacing 4wd shift fork...any tips?

Last winter my 4wd was inconsistent going in and out and I've verified everything except for the shift fork. At nearly 200k I figure the pads are done for or at least severely worn so I'm going to replace it before the snow flies.

Doing research on the procedure, it looks fairly straight forward but I was surprised there isn't a step by step diy with pictures anywhere. I found many threads describing the procedure and 1 incredibly vague YouTube video but that's it.

My plan is to unbolt the CV, then the axle tube and pull it out to replace the fork on the bench. Not really looking to drop the entire diff and from what I've seen that's not necessary anyway. Anyone that has done it, any tips to make the job easier?
