Default Repair or Engine Swap

See bottom of post for vehicle details.

So I've owned and drove a 1997 f150 from mid April til mid october and put 10,000 miles on it when I hit a car damaging the front end. Shop in Sioux Falls, South Dakota wants $2500 for the mechanical damage that stops driveability. Minimal body damage was caused and is not in the quote.

Now I'm drivin a 95 F150 that I had to buy as I crashed my truck the morning I was meant to leave to start my new traveling job. I could tow it the 200-220 miles it would take to get it here, a shop here claims they will put good used parts on it.. He inspects them and he has any reason to believe the salvage yard sold him something that's been in an accident or other he will refuse the parts..

Tow it here&Get it running for $1500 including:
*PF Steering Knuckle&Wheel bearing,
*both outer tie rod ends, four shocks
*used matching rim and alignment.
--TOTAL: $1475 (Im assuming 4 new shocks)
(Shop rate $85/hr)

Shopwhere it's at now wanted to do new parts:
*Upper PF control arms, steering knuckle,
*PF wheel bearing, rim, tire, alignment
*Lower Ball joint PF, shock
--Total $2400 - $1450 in parts $695 labor
(Shop rate $110+/hr I think)

I used to have my own tools but my truck got stolen and the theif must have thought I didn't need them as much as he did in jail. Would it be worth doing on my own after buying tools? Used or new parts? Or here's another idea.. Just take my motor (and some other good parts) and swap it over to another truck.. What kind of deal you reckon I can work out that's worthwhile. I don't think I intend to keep this 95.

Its bolt on stuff
fix it yourself, save far more than $100 worth of tools you need, which you need to buy anyway. You cant own a 23 yr old truck without tools.

It all depends on condition.
you could put $ towards a nicer truck.
