Removing Fuel
Trying to determine amount of fuel in tank and get what I can out. Motor is still out so I don't want to put a battery in it. I tried siphoning but can't seem to even find fuel. I have the fuel filter removed from the forward line. New one is in place on forward connection and old one is hanging down from line back to tank. I had hoped to siphon it through the filter. No dice. I can use a vacuum oil changer and it will draw gas through. Removed less than a gallon this way and it's a pain. Now plan B was to wait until everything is back together and turn key on and see if it pumps the old fuel out through the connected filter.
Also where do you guys buy your Mercon V ?

you can get it in different brands like castrol. I got mine from Amazon for the motorcraft stuff. I used that tasca parts to get the filter. It was like $35? I don't trust aftermarket filters especially in transmissions plus you can't get a good one around here. The auto part stores have junk ones. Anyway the transmission pan gasket is reusable. But I'd get a new one from ford in case it's been ripped from someone else.

Yes; or siphon it out through the fuel filler. there is also nothing wrong with putting in the new engine, hooking everything up, and running out the existing fuel in the tank. by the way, just hooking up the batter to run the fuel pump will not work. The fuel pump goes on when you turn the key for only a couple of second. Thereafter, the PCM send a signal to the fuel pump and the engine needs to be cranking for the fuel pump to pump fuel through the fuel line.
I siphon from the rear vent on occasion. When I don't feel like going up town for tractor fuel.
Remove vent tube, turn the vent counter clockwise 90* and it pops out. You have a large 1 1/2" hole to siphon from at the rear on the tank.

You're probably having a hard time coming through the filter because you're pulling it through the pump. You'd be better off doing it the old school way of putting a hose down through the fill neck.

I tried down the neck, but could not find any fuel to blow bubbles in. So I don't know how much fuel might be in there. I thought when I had a battery in it, that it showed 3/4. I would have thought I'd be into gas if it really had that much left in it. I've siphoned gas from a 250 before successfully to change fuel pump. I'm going to look for the vent Jbrew was talking about when I get home. Bummer it will not just sit there and empty the tank with the key on. Tank on this one is metal and huge, long like the bed.

There's a tension clamp on the vent hose, one of those deals you squeeze with pliers and push back. Easier done than said in this case.
