Default Remote starter

Hi all, new member and first post. I am looking to get a remote start for my 2002 F150. I have no idea what to get. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It has to be PATS compatible. Otherwise you are wasting your time.

There are several.
Are you really sure you want it?
It's NOT plug and play....
There's a lot of wires you have to splice into... up inside of your dash...

There are tutorials by people who have done it, fortunately.

There are basically two kinds.... Ones that will give you a new remote.... With a start button..... And ones that use your existing remote.. and the start is activated by pressing the lock button like three times in a row or something like that

Then you have two kinds of PATS ability. One kind requires you to fasten a spare key up inside the dash to trigger the pats. The other is actually programmable just like the key so that you don't have to do that.

Now I think it's great in cold weather to pre-warm the vehicle... I use it on rental cars that have it when I'm traveling in cold regions for work. But it's actually illegal to use remote starts in many states. It's illegal to have a car running without a person in it in some states. In the cold states it's called puffing..(because the exhaust on cold mornings)... And people receive tickets.... In their own driveway. Some areas are apparently quite serious about enforcing stuff like that and others would never bother.

You also might wonder... Sometimes if you have accidentally started your vehicle... When you're not near it. With the ones activated by the lock... I think if you actually use the lock button inside the vehicle like a child playing in the vehicle... It could start the engine.... So there are some things to consider... You would want to remove any kind like that before you sold vehicle so you wouldn't be liable in the future... Although you can't drive the vehicle until you put a key in and unlock the steering wheel so you can shift.... It could be in somebody's garage and get started ... And asphyxiate them. CO poisioning, etc It also makes it that much easier for somebody to steal your vehicle.... Not that people are going out and targeting 20-25 yo trucks.... But that steering wheel lock isn't that hard to break

Thank you the suggestions. My dealership says that they don't offer warranty on electrical anyway after I got a tracker installed. Is that true? Does a tracker void the electrical warranty?
Because I also share my truck on Turo. I am thinking of getting it because after that I will not have to meet them personally and give them the keys. Another reason to get it is that it is Bluetooth. They have to within the range to start it.
I think I will plug the trigger on it. Keep you posted.
