Tbh having the entire windshield done at 50%, although illegal, isn't very dark and will not impair vision that bad. Yeah it's not the same as clear glass but to each their own. I'm getting mine done in 30% to help with Heat. Hate all you want but it's not to look cool.
It is that bad, and is stupid to do so, even more so to do 30%.
But whatever, have fun scraping it off when you get pulled over for it.
Tint laws are not because of the inability to see from the inside out. They are strictly because cops don't like it. But unless I told you I had windshield tint you wouldn't know.
I had two people at work today look at it and neither knew I had done the windshield until I told them. They are sold and will be getting theirs done too.

I lived in California (at a time when they did not allow tint) but my car was licensed in Oregon (which did allow tint), the vehicle registration costs are much different. But I got pulled over a lot for tinted windows -- then the cops would say 'well, you're licensed in another state, so we won't ticket you'. And they'd let me go, or give me a ticket for no seat belt first. But the worst -- I got pulled over on the freeway with cocktails in our hands, open fifth of liquor, joints and rolling machine out in the open. The cop didn't even get out of his car, -- using the loud speaker he said 'just keep going'. I'm sure he pulled me over for tint, but then figured he couldn't do anything about it. So,,yes, I didn't argue, I just kept going.
So good luck on not getting caught -- did they have to pull the windshield, or do it in place?

Oh, several years later I used to do business with the Highway Patrol. I remember one cop telling me that during winter on the mountain roads he will see people with window tint and he will just keep up the same speed as them. The funny thing is they knew the cop was there, so they would roll down their windows -- and the cop just tagged along. He got a kick out of it.

It is a safety issue, regardless if you think it is or not.
As for your coworkers, well, sheeple are like that.
If I lived up north I wouldn't even try it. Places like Michigan apparently cops pull over everyone for tint with testers in hand. I had a mustang that had 5% all around (not windshield) and never got pulled over once. I guess cops in Tennessee have better things to do.
Where I live, only state troopers care about tint. Tint laws go both ways. There are safety issues with going too dark. But it's also so cops can still see inside the vehicle.
