Swapping to drums is easy. Plug and play. You would have to bleed the brakes of course, but otherwise,l nothing is different, just the system components only.

These axles are not rare. They are readily available across the US. Tell the wrecking yard you want either a 869 A or B or even C axle, with disc brakes, and they will have no problem with the choice.
Sounds good! Just making sure there wouldn’t be anything else I would have to do. Seems easy enough. I’ll start making calls soon.

Just found one at the yard with the 869 A. Coming out of a 99 f-150 with the 4.6. Gonna head back to the yard on Friday with some buddies and pull her out!

make sure the door tag reads H9 before you pull it. That will make sure you have the LS diff. Good luck.

With the 869 axle, you have the latest and strongest one made at that date. I try to always give the best axle number when guys do this swap. It all depends on the year and if you have the 12 or 14mm lug studs. Glad you found one. Don't forget the XL3 modifier/additive from Motorcraft/Ford. Only 8 bucks or so, but the best on the market.

Last time I got XL3 at the dealer, it was cheaper than Amazon... so check your local dealer first.

A thought, and maybe it's been covered. But if it's a high mile clutch LSD it might be worthwhile to put new discs in while it's out and easy to work on. They do wear out, as I understand things. The kits are available and it's not difficult. Plus you'll want to take the cover off and inspect before installing anyway.

It's the one thing that people use to justify buying aftermarket LSD instead of Ford.

Agreed... the Ford LSD is pretty decent for road use and light off road duty though. I'm still running a never-been-touched LSD in my 89 Mustang. All I've done is change the fluid and it still works.

Hey guys just checking in letting y’all know that I have completed the swap. Replaced the clutches, drum brakes, and put in amsoil severe gear with the motor craft ls additive. The biggest problems I ran into was the parking brake situation, just a pain in the *** to swap all the stuff from the old axle over, but once I got her set up, it worked even better than my 3.08s! Brand new drum brakes as well they stop like a charm. Felt the difference in her big time especially because of the LS diff. Such a joy to drive now. My only other question is how much does it effect my speedometer? Thank you again for all of your help guys this was a heavy job!

308 to 355 is about 15% off. 60 on the speedo should be about 50 actual mph. You can check with a google search to be more exact. You can make this right with a tuner since it is a 99 and it is digital speedometer odometer.
