Default Rear axle replacement?

Ok, I know this is an unusual question, but there doesn't seem to be any threads discussing this, that I can find.

I have 3.31 gears in my '02 4x4 with no limited slip rear. I'd love to put a nice locker in it but I don't have that kind of money, both for the locker and for the instillation, since its probably over my head since I've never done it before.

Soo, my question is can I go to a junkyard and buy complete limited slip front and rear ends and install them without issue? I know I have to have matching axle gears so I would go for matching axles. Has anybody else done this, and are there any specific things I should look for? Will the 9.75" bolt in in place of my 8.8?

Also one last question, would a limited slip carrier out of a foxbody Mustang with the 8.8" work in this 8.8"?

Thanks, can't wait to here what you guys say!

I think the Mustang 8.8 will not work...the axle spline is different (smaller).

Hmm, ok bummer. I was digging around in the garage the other day and found one from a Mustang I bought years ago, I had forgotten that I had it!

I took one out of a Crown Victoria once (Police Cruiser) it also was smaller splined than my truck.
