Hey guys ive got a 4.6 2wd with 3:55 gears and 33" mud grips, and the truck has absolutely no huevos, wants to shift out of overdrive bad, and i need to start pulling trailers alot with it soon. The other day i called a tranny shop, got a quote for ~$1200 to go from 3:55 to 4:10. Non limited slip. Is this outrageous or normal price?
Also, about how long would it take to get done? Its my daily driver and i really dont have time to leave it in a shop, i was wondering if it could maybe just take one saturday if i get it scheduled first thing in the am?

Dont you need a new differential carrier for 4.10s? If so thats a decent price. And if you are changing the carrier why not just get a limited slip?

I dont even know what the differential carrier is... Talk about embarassing. Im no stranger to trucks but ive never messed with differentials. I just need to go from 3:55s to 4:10 as cheap as i possibly can.

Its the part that holds all the gears inside the axle.

U shouldn't need anything but a bearing and seal kit and gear oil if they r open a full day let the technician work on it and he is experienced with rear ends it should only take about 5 or so hours

I'm pretty sure once you get to either 4.10s or 4.56s you need a aftermarket carrier. I can't remember which it is though
