Default new to forums, advice helpful, ready to upgrade

I have a 2002 F 150 4X4 5.4L completely stock with almost 200k miles. Still runs great other than a noticeable knock , what sounds like the bottom end but has been there for quite some time and some loss in power. Looking to do some performance upgrades , rebuilds, and turn into a play truck. Thinking of motor work, trans , exhaust, lift, and tires. New to this and was looking for a direction. Figured this to be the best place to start? not wanting to go crazy but maybe 2in lift with 37's. Any suggestions on what mods to make?

Personally I guess if I were building a play truck I would be throwing on a 6" suspension lift. If budget is tight then a 3" body lift would suffice.

Well a 2 inch lift for a play truck wouldn't suffice unless your budget is the issue. Don't get a body lift. Too much work and effort for a dumb look to make your body completely higher than your fenders. Serves no purpose in suspension travel and ground clearance for off road situations. You need about a 6-8 inch suspension lift... And 37's on a 2 inch lift wouldn't be advisable either as stock for you truck is what about a 31 inch tire since its a 4x4? You would be just filling the fender wells with rubber that's not getting used let alone probably going to rub. If you truly want a 37 you need a suspension lift and regear your rear differential. Not regearing you'll lose all your bottom end torque for off roading, towing, hauling, ect.

PS. Bigger tires on these F150's you're going to have to trim your bottom plastic valance of your front bumper for the tires to clear while turning.

Hope this helps and not trying to down CDIESEL at all, but a body lift doesn't do anything for performance and if someone tells you they do they are just lying to make themselves feel better about their dumb decision.

Body Lifts help with tire size clearance, with approaching and departing angles without changing factory steering geometry.

There are plenty of off road guys that dont require, need or want upward suspension travel beyond stock.
