Default Re-gearing question

A couple months ago I put a 2.5 inch leveling kit on my 03" FX4 and some 295/70/17 Nitto Trail Grapplers and they are SO HEAVY! They weigh my truck down so much and killed my gas mileage and power.. I have 3.73 stock gears on my truck now and it's not doing the job.. So I am here to ask fellow owners about upgrading to a 4.10 ratio. What are some pros and cons of re-gearing and and a price range also if I don't need to re-gear what do I need? Thanks for the help!

You really wont gain hardly anything by regearing. 95% of what you are feeling is a incorrect transmission shifts, incorrect speedo, along with the added weight and aggressive tread. The weight and added rolling resistance alone is what kills the mileage.

Sounds like you need a tuner to program in the bigger tire size. That will correct the incorrect speedo, trans shifts, and might make it drive a little better

Yeah don't waste your money on the regear for that small of a tire change. I have slightly smaller 285/70/17 Cooper STT's and my mileage didn't change hardly at all and I have 3.55's. As said above, get a programmer to fix the speedo and all that and you'll see you really haven't lost as much mileage as you think.

I recommend the SCT X4 with 3 free custom tunes from MPT.

Program it. I regeared mine because I had 3.08's and 4.10's were a huge upgrade but they're not worth the $3000 for you I wouldn't say.

3.73 to 4.10 isn't worth it, not on any truck. And those Trail Grapplers are heavy beastly tires - great for brutal terrain, but not what you want if mileage and power are a concern.

I have heard from a few people that a programmer isn't worth the money. You guys are telling me the opposite. Are they really worth it? And which are the "best" or "recommended"?

With the larger tires the trans shift points are way off. Programmers are worth it when a truck isnt stock.

Ok so go with the programmer. Is there a specific one that is better than the others? If I'm going to spend a bit of money I'm not settling for something cheap.
