Default re-assembling rear diff question

I took my rear diff apart to examine everything for damage and now realise i should have left it together. The promblem i face is not being able to get the center pin back in becaue of a lack of clearance. I took the spider gears and side gears out and when i put everything back together i could not get enough space between the axle shafts to fit the center pin back in, nevermind the side gears. The clutch packs went in the same way they came out, and i got the c-clips back on the ends of the axle shafts. Do i have to turn the side gears in first in order to push the axle shafts apart? and if so how would i go about doing this while keeping the curved washers on them? Its a LS 3.55 9.75"

Thats exactly what i'm trying to do, the only problem is that even with the axle shafts pulled all the way out, there isnt enought clearance.

I know what you mean by that but there just isn't enough room, it's like the spider gears are to close together, almost like if i had added more clutch pack discs, which i havent. Is there a trick to getting those gears in farther? It seems like the clutch packs, gears, and washers are in as far as they can go...

Ok well i figured out the lack of clearance is because of the springs on the clutch packs and i can get the gears back in but now I just can't figure out how to turn the 2 gears in WITH the washers on. The washers just want to slide off and will get wrecked if i keep turning the wheel any farther. Can they be slid in afterwords?I tried to do this but they wouldnt quite go in...
