Default Random Wipers

Looking through the threads to solve my no-start problem on my 99 F150 4.6L, and I saw a thread about something that reminded me about the weirdo thing my truck has done ever since I have had it.

Just randomly without warning my wipers will go on for just one swipe, key on, running or not. The first few times this happened, I thought I must have hit the control arm accidentally, even though I sure did not think I did. My wife was in the truck a few times when it happened, and did not believe me when I said I didn't do it. Finally it happened when she was driving, so then she believes me!

This only happens every few months, I think it did not happen for a couple of years, still very random and very freaky. Does anyone else have this phenomena?

My old B2500 (Ranger) did this, I was told it was the ghost of my father.

Had the same issue on a 99 Taurus. Had to replace the multifunction switch for the wiper. Tried to go the after market route to save money and it did not workout (online and NAPA). Save yourself some headaches and go OEM Motorcraft.

It's usually a ground problem either in the multi-function switch or in the motor itself. You might take the bolts holding the motor mounting and make sure that they are tight. One of them is also the ground strap, and if it isn't getting a solid ground, you can get what is being described. This was more common on the Gen 8-9 series with intermittent wipers, but the design didn't really change much over the years, so I'd check there before spending any money. Good luck.

Its the multifunction switch, if you have the tilt wheel, try moving it up or down a notch, that usually solves it for me.
