Depending on which 04 you have, Heritage or NBS, which radio. The GEN 10 (04H) with the 2 removal pin holes on each side of the face, has solder joint problems, as well as the control **** (potentiometer) wearing out, because of the use. You can remove the radio, take off the outer face and repair the solder or replace the potentiometer., if you need to. It's a heck of a lot easier to just pop in another used one or upgrade to another head.

The 04 NBS, the double din type has a ribbon connector inside so replacing the faceplate is doable and simple if you do. I don't know why a person would fix the NBS ones, other than the navigation radios, as they are so available and interchangeable with most DD Fords to 2010. AND CHEAP.
